What started over two decades ago as a passion project has grown into a family-run home for play-based learning! For 25 years, our mission has remained simple: to bring high-quality, affordable educational toys to classrooms, playrooms, and stores across South Africa. With a deep foundation in early childhood development, we don’t just sell toys—we curate tools that inspire curiosity, spark creativity, and help little minds hit those big developmental milestones.
Every year, we travel the globe to hand-pick the latest trends, classic developmental staples, and generic educational favourites that offer maximum play value without breaking the bank. From fine motor skill builders to puzzle cubes and active play, every item in our catalogue is selected with care, learning outcomes, and durability in mind.
Our story
Edu-Kidz started life in 2001 as a small toy shop in Hillcrest, Durban. Real till, real shelves, real conversations with real parents about what actually keeps their kids busy (and what ends up forgotten in a cupboard by Friday).
In 2019 we made the call to close the shop and focus everything on wholesale and, now, on you — our online customers. Best decision we ever made. It meant we could stop worrying about foot traffic and start obsessing over the one thing that actually matters: the toys themselves.
What makes us different
We don’t buy toys off a spreadsheet. Our team travels to the toy markets and trade fairs, picks products up, pulls them apart, tests the moving bits, and asks the annoying questions before anything gets anywhere near our containers.
- Every toy is physically tested before we order it not just approved from a photo.
- We choose for developmental value first, price second (though we're pretty proud of our prices too).

If a toy can survive our office, it can survive any classroom! Meet Harley, our beloved Beagle and official Chief Quality Inspector. While the rest of the team manages sourcing, logistics, and customer service from our headquarters in Hillcrest, Harley takes care of motivation, warm welcomes, and testing product durability.
